Aqueous Abandon

Off my head like tin
From the sky, screeches echo
through gentle drops.

Feel the rain
without protection
to feel its pain.

Expose your skin to liquid past—
Rain will fall on us all.

Of all the stranger souls it's wet—
blood and skin you've never met.
Of milky eyes and cheeks with tears,
stained and sore through all these years.
Of guns and powder and days gone well,
and stories of heroes no one tells—
All this to miss,
just to stay dry.

Some cringe and cower in its dark,
but face the pain and find its grace
and see it shine on burdened ground.
You'll make it through another round.

The rain is not what
dampens your mind.
See that you're selfish
like your brothers.
Rain
reminds us
the pain of others.

Leave with the drops
your tension and fears.
Wash them away upon another,
for the strength you'll leave
them through your pain,
the trace you made it through
a second rain.

Snap your head to the skies.
Lightning flashes and smashes
your mind.
Your eyelids go thin
and thunders drone.
Fall back and feel
the rain alone.
